The largest sanctuary in Vieux-Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes, the Sainte-Reparate cathedral reveals an architecture similar to that of Roman buildings from the beginning of the Baroque. Listed as an historic monument in 1906 and elevated to the rank of minor basilica in 1949, it was erected in the second half of the 17th century on the plans of architects Jean-André Guiberto and Marc-Antoine Grigho.
The building is organized on a basilica plan in the form of a Roman cross revealing absolutely sumptuous choir and chapel decorations inside. The interior, which is inspired by that of the very famous Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, reveals ten exceptional chapels, as well as a high altar surmounted by the Glory of Saint Reparate. His remains have rested in the cathedral since the end of the 17th century.
