A Louis XII-style building erected in the 14th century, the Château de Nérac, in Lot-et-Garonne, is a very fine example of the architectural transition between Gothic art and the First Renaissance. Completed under Jeanne d'Albert, it was dismantled during the French Revolution, showing today only its north wing, listed as a Historic Monument. The latter reveals to its visitors a very beautiful gallery with twisted columns and sculpted capitals.
This part of the castle of Nérac which housed the apartments of the Queen of Navarre, now houses a permanent exhibition "from the saga of the Albrets to the origins of Henri IV". It is possible to discover collections ranging from the 16th to the 19th century with paintings, statues and other objects retracing the political and religious facets of the old court of Navarre.
