Castle of the Dervallières

Monument in Nantes

The castle of Dervallières was located in the current district of Dervallières - Zola, at Nantes. This estate belonged to the de Derval family, who also owned a manor in the center of the city in the 15th century, which was then incorporated into the buildings of the town hall.

The old castle, for its part, was used as a country residence.

The properties were sold in the 16th century to the Morin family (one of whose members was then treasurer of Brittany) then to the Bonnin de Messignac, lords of Chalucet.

The whole was acquired in 1701 by a wealthy Irishman established in Nantes and finally, in the 1820s, a new noble tufa house was erected.

After the Second World War, the reconstruction of the city and the need to accommodate a larger population led to the dismantling of the castle and its outbuildings. Buildings are built.

Part of the estate has, however, been converted into a green park with a pond, open to the public. You can still see the old dovecote, a pond from the park of yesteryear and facade elements of the old central pavilion.

A place for walks steeped in history, in short, to which the remains of the Château des Dervallières lend a romantic atmosphere.

Open daily. Information on +33 2 40 41 65 09.
