Located in the heart of Nantes, in Loire-Atlantique, Château des Ducs de Bretagne is still the ultimate Loire chateau before the ocean. Built in the late fifteenth century by the last Duke of Brittany Francis II and modified by his daughter, the famous Anne of Brittany, the building reveals an incredible fortress that protects a beautiful residential palace facades that blend styles and centuries.
Formerly the residence of the kings of France in Brittany, the castle of Britain today ranked the Dukes Historical Monuments impresses with its rampart walk of 500 meters and its seven towers connected by curtains. The castle itself impresses with its Gothic architecture, slightly tinted Renaissance, entirely in stone tufa.
Prison and military barracks, the site becomes property of the city in the first half of the twentieth century. Completely renovated and rebuilt it hosts since the late 2000s the Nantes History Museum. The latter has, through its various collections, history Nantes from its origins to today. Thirty rooms to the modern museum carry visitors eager to learn more about this amazing site.
