Castle of Bois-Briand

The Château de Bois-Briand is located at Nantes, in Loire-Atlantique, in the Doulon-Bottière district, to the northeast of the city, on the edge of the commune of Sainte-Luce.

This is a mansion erected at the beginning of the 15th century. The old parts have been kept intact but over the centuries elements and buildings have been added, particularly in the 17th century when the premises were converted into a pleasure residence (or "madness").

Many owners have succeeded one another, rich families of Irish emigrants, American businessmen, but also corsairs or French nobles!

The castle is at the center of a now reduced domain (1.5 hectares) but its larger exteriors (about ten hectares) which included an orangery and a French garden have been sold. The orangery houses a cultural space and the gardens have been developed.

The castle itself, still private, is made up of a main dwelling with the medieval manor house and its 17th century extension in a "pleasure" style with larger windows and whose facade extends that of the manor house, outbuildings (including a gardener's house), "water mirrors", a wood, a mall of lime trees and a courtyard. An old chapel was transformed into a stable even before the Revolution.

This property with its unique history has preserved buildings over 600 years old and now houses charming apartments (for rent) in the annexes of the manor and offices.

The set is partially open to the public and can be observed from the outside.
