Montmirail

The small city of what nature offers Montmirail under its visitors exceptional monuments and full of history.

Montmirail Castle was built in the fourteenth century and modified in the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries. Listed historic monument, it can admire parts of the eighteenth century rich woods, or beautiful parks and gardens. If the name is the same, however the building has nothing to do with the famous Montmirail film The Visitors.

The religious heritage of Montmirail is not left out, including the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, or the chapel Saint-Gervais.

At the foot of the ancient walls of the village, you can take walks in the garden of the Remparts, a place of medieval inspiration. In the center, we can admire some old houses dating from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century.

Walkers and history lovers will appreciate the Bellevue path along all walls Montmirail. This is clearly the oldest example of civil engineering in this part of the Sarthe.

The first and second Sundays of the month, very popular horse races are organized.

Every August, Montmirail offers its medieval feast in the castle, with festive and vibrant entertainment.
