Built at the foot of the mountain and the Coucherine of the foothills of Aurouze, the castle dominates a plain watered by the Béoux the Sigouste and Buëch.
Its construction began probably in the 13th century and spread over five centuries, during which he underwent various transformations.
At the time his plan is square with four turrets at the corners. In 1590, these " lamps ass " were replaced by four round towers. Unlike many castles, it is not perched : situated in contact lowland which gave him a residential character. The most important are the construction of its round towers in 1590 and the disappearance of two floors after two fires in the 17th and 18th centuries. The lands that spread at his feet complemented originally the property. But in 1847 to facilitate the movement which was carried out previously by the village, a new road is fitted to the castle.
First classified in 1978 to protect its decorations : monumental fireplaces, many paintings in the rooms of pageantry and large French ceilings, the castle will be fully in 1988 under the Historic Monuments.
Since 2006 this area is the property of the Hautes- Alpes. The General Council in collaboration with various partners, is continuing the development of this unique heritage of the Dauphiné. Each year are offered numerous cultural events during the summer season. This historic setting is run (every week from the music festival in June to the Heritage Days in September ) of music, theater, dance, lectures, exhibitions and of course through free visits or Guided.
