Things to see and do

Part of the Monuments Historiques, Notre-Dame-des-Marais church dates from the 15th and 16th centuries. It takes place on the remains of an ancient building of the eleventh century built on the very spot where locals would have found a statue of the Virgin Mary. Completed in the 17th century, the present chapel blends Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance styles with originality. Inside, one can admire a coffered ceiling in the south side aisle, originality that one finds only once in France, in Annecy.

The Saint-Barthélémy chapel is also the subject of an inscription to the Historic Monuments. Built in the 13th century, it dominates the town at more than 80 meters in height. Above, at about 300 meters above sea level, stands a monumental statue of the Madonna and Child erected in the second half of the 19th century. Not far away are some ruins of an ancient medieval castle, while a green theater has been laid out.

Built at the beginning of the 19th century, the Girard mill is listed in the Historical Monuments, as well as its surrounding buildings, its reach and its wheel. Disused at the end of the Second World War, it was used for the production of wheat flour.

Inscribed in the Historical Monuments for its facade and its roof, the hotel of Condé dates from the XVIIth century. Not open to the public, today it hosts a medical practice.

While walking in Montluel, do not miss to admire the vestiges of the Poype de Botentut, the Mandot tower near the town hall, or the old hospice and its apothecary. This old pharmacy of the Jesuits of Lyon built in the middle of the XVIIIth century still presents a beautiful collection of earthenware of this time.

The Museum of Art and History of the city unveils to the visitors collections relating to the rural and agricultural life of the coast in the early twentieth century. It takes place in an old building of the sixteenth century.
