Listed as a Historic Monument, the Bien-Assis castle in Montluçon, in the Allier, is a former feudal residence from the 15th century. From its origins, the building has notably preserved paneled doors and fittings, as well as chimneys. The main building consists of two rooms on each floor and has, on one long side, a square staircase tower flanked by a circular turret.
On its ground floor, the Château de Bien-Assis houses temporary exhibitions, while on the first floor, visitors can discover a permanent exhibition on the collections of the Friends of Montluçon. On the program are places, objects and other documents on the city and its surroundings from prehistory to the 20th century.
The other rooms of the Château de Bien-Assis contain a library of ancient works. The vaulted cellar and the chapel reveal a lapidary exhibition with stones recovered from the Yellow Castle, a bourgeois residence demolished in the 1960s.
