Of very ancient origin, was called the place " the desired mountain", a name probably due to the rich mineral deposits that the basement contained and also the presence of water, a real treasure on limestone and arid plateau of the Causse.
The dwellings are tight at the foot of the fortress, stone sentinel guarding for centuries access to the Causse de Blandas from the valleys. The village is located right on the road that travels the Cevennes to the Pyrenees via Lodève. Passage privileged so borrowed by both merchants and pilgrims ( as evidenced by the remains of the hospital and hostels) but also people from guns and gangs of looters... Arthur Young, the famous agronomist British, makes stage on July 30, 1787. the village is experiencing a significant economic development in the 19th century, thanks to the mining and extraction of lithographic stones.
Montdardier opens a space of its own: the Causse de Blandas. The contrast is given by the castle, the shapes and lines soar into the sky in a flat universe with rare vegetation.
