Covering an area of 1003 hectares, Montceaux extends over a length of 4 km and a width of 3 km. The town is crossed by Calonne which then flows into the Saône. The relief is the plateau Dombes.
The etymology would likely Montceaux or Montcel, which means small hill.
Ancient excavations have unearthed, polished stone axes, Neolithic (5000 BC) and ceramics Gallo-Roman, the hamlet of Rivals. Two Roman villas from the same period 200-300 AD) have been identified in the hamlet of Redhead. Village Montceaux appears for the first time in a document of 943.
After the revolution, the parish was officially restored August 28, 1808.
