The Saint-Louis church of Montcabrier is located in the heart of this country house (new city plan checkerboard) located in the Lot department, 7 km north-west of Puy-l'Eveque, on the edge of the Lot -Garonne.
The church was built at the same time as the rest of the bastide (which bears the name of a seneschal of Quercy loyal to the King of France during the Hundred Years War), in the last decade of the thirteenth century, to the location of an old Romanesque chapel.
According to the wishes of Philip IV, it was dedicated to St. Louis in honor of his canonization.
Gothic style, the church has, in its inner chapels, capitals similar to those of the cathedral of Cahors.
Some alterations were made in the fifteenth century (rebuilding the vaults of the chapels) and the eighteenth (repair of the upper parts of the nave, with drilling new windows and addition of a sacristy behind the choir).
After lightning struck the bell tower in 1889, a span was demolished and the west facade rebuilt.
However, inscribed in its entirety in the inventory since 2003, the church has generally retained its original appearance, as could be observed in the Middle Ages pilgrims of Saint-Jacques.
