Things to see and do

A typically Mediterranean village, Montblanc particularly attracts its visitors with its old medieval center with narrow streets and vaulted porches. The highlight of the district is surely the Sainte-Eulalie church erected between the 12th and 13th centuries on the remains of an older building. The building, in Romanesque style, today reveals a cul-de-four choir, a 13th century bell tower with machicolations and battlements, as well as interior chapels from the 14th and 15th centuries. It is also possible to admire a beautiful preaching pulpit in wood and marble from the first half of the 18th century. The Sainte-Eulalie church is classified as a Historic Monument.

While strolling through the town, you can discover the common oven built in the Middle Ages and transformed in the 17th century or the consular house. Built in the second half of the 17th century by the consuls Gasc and Dijous, the latter has a beautiful vaulted ground floor which formerly served as a market hall.

The only vestige of the old feudal castle, the castle tower dominates the village with its Lombard-style semi-circular arched machicolations. Not far away, admire the exterior of a 15th century Renaissance castle, now privately owned, which notably hosted Francis I and Eleonore of Habsburg in 1533.

Since the 1920s, the town hall has housed an art museum. Redesigned in the 2000s, it presents beautiful paintings of various inspirations.
