Montbenoît

Montbenoît is famous for its abbey, built from the twelfth to the sixteenth century. This medieval religious monument is the best preserved of the department. The abbey has sumptuous carved stalls and a very well preserved cloister.

A Montbenoît, the appearance of a religious community around a hermit named Benedict around 1000 the economy develops along a portion of the Doubs valley called "The Saugeais" and become ecclesiastical lordship up 'the Revolution.
