Residence of the counts of Montbéliard from the end of the 14th century, then of the dukes of Württemberg from the end of the 15th century, the castle of Montbéliard is a fine example of a 13th century French fortified castle.
Now listed as a Historic Monument, the Renaissance-style building houses the museum of the Castle of the Dukes of Württemberg, as well as the museum of archeology and natural history of Montbéliard. Erected on a rocky promontory at the confluence of the Lizaine and the Allan, the castle of Montbéliard was present from the tenth century.
Inside, visitors can discover collections of natural sciences, archaeology, history and fine arts, all tracing the history of the country of Montbéliard.
