A small rural town in the Aude, Montazels is part of the Razès, on the edge of the Pays de Sault. Crossed by the Aude, it is part of the attraction area of Limoux.
Occupied since prehistoric times, the territory of Montazels developed in Antiquity before becoming a town in its own right during the Middle Ages. Long dependent on the County of Carcassonne, the town became famous during the 19th century with its agricultural activities centered around vines, peaches, apricots, cherries, apples and even olives.
Nowadays, the town has managed to preserve an authentic architecture from its past. Passing visitors will particularly appreciate its small stone houses or its 11th century church.
