Small market town of Ille-et-Vilaine in Brittany, Mont-Dol is located on the bay of Mont Saint Michel, at seventy kilometers from Rennes. It is located not far from Saint-Benoît-des-Ondes, Dol-de-Bretagne or Lillemer.

Frequented since the Paleolithic, as evidenced by the remains and skeletons of animals found there, the territory of Mont-Dol develops later through the exploitation of granite quarries. The Breton town has shaped over the centuries the true face it has today, preserving its traditions while opening to modernity.

Today Mont-Dol continues to attract visitors wishing to enjoy a natural setting and charming during their journey to the land of Brittany or Normandy neighbor. Its architectural and historical heritage also await the lovers of old stones and history.

Things to see and do

Listed historical monument, the Church of St. Peter dates from the second half of the twelfth century. Savant Romanesque art of mixing and Gothic art, it presents in its interior a set of medieval frescoes classified historic monument and considered one of the most important in the region. These are the particular cycle of the Passion and Resurrection or Hell.

Originally built in the sixth century by St. Samson, St. Michael's Chapel has seen its ruins serve as raw material for the construction of the cage telegraph Chappe in the early nineteenth century. The disused building subsequently was recovered a few years later to house a small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Hope. Next door, you can explore a giant statue of Our Lady on a large octagonal granite.

Crossing Mont-Dol, be sure not to admire the different mills, like the Tertre which is still in working condition.

Mont-Dol offers small craft market and the land of the second Wednesday of July to the second last Wednesday of August, in the late afternoon.

In early August, instead Mill Fest with its many entertainment for the whole family.

In August, Wednesdays Mont-Dol have the opportunity to attend high-quality shows.
