Recently restored, the Château de Placard in Mœurs-Verdey, in Marne, takes place on the borders of Brie and Champagne. Home of the Portes family since the 19th century, this 11th century Romanesque castle, plundered many times, was completely remodeled in the 18th century by Charles François Roland le Virloys, then architect to the King of Prussia.
Occupied during the War of 1870 and then during the Second World War, Placard Castle is still flanked today by a farm and a dovecote. Its forest covers old quarries and clay mines and reveals a rare variety of orchid.
Inhabited private property, the castle is open to visitors during the European Heritage Days and offers paid guest rooms between the months of May and October.
