Village of character, halfway between the Ardéchoise Mountain and the Ardèche Gorges, 15 kilometers from Aubenas by the RN 102, direction Le Puy and in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Monts d'Ardèche, Meyras, offers you, in calm and relaxation, a true nature cure. You will discover in the streets and alleys of Meyras, twelve scenes painted in trompe l'oeil, retracing the life of the village in the 1920s/1930s.

To guide you on your journey, explanatory signs have been installed in certain streets, but you can obtain accompanying documents from the Tourist Office or the Activities Office. You will also have the opportunity to visit the village with a guide, "Dédé l'Ardéchois", every Monday in July and August.

Things to see and do

The Romans founded the thermal baths there, the Middle Ages erected their castles there, geology and volcanism have sculpted grandiose landscapes there.

Meyras, medieval village, also allows you to appreciate its historical and architectural heritage: Romanesque church of Saint Etienne (twelfth century bell tower), castles of Ventadour (visit possible in July and August) and Hautségure (private), rue Large (Renaissance period with beautiful stone buildings…).

At the end of the Grand Rue, opposite the Alambic car park (north of the village), a former muleteer relay and its dovecote.

Heart at the place: from the parking lot of the Place du Champs de Mars, take the Grand Rue and 30 m from the multi-services on the right. During the wars of religion (16th century), it was easy to know which religion your neighbor belonged to! Heart upside down: Catholic, Heart upside down: Protestant!

The "Mofette", resurgence of carbon dioxide, is located on the spa site of Neyrac-les-Bains, specializing in the treatment of skin diseases and rheumatism.

In the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Monts d'Ardèche, this territory offers a remarkable biodiversity of more than 1400 listed plant species.

The Château de Ventadour (12th century) stands at an altitude of 373 m, at the intersection of two valleys, the Fontaulière and the Ardèche, a sentinel guarding the entrance to the town of Meyras. Until the Revolution, the castle was called Meyras castle after the name of the village located two kilometers away. The Ventadour name is much more recent. It appears in the texts after the revolution and originates from the name of the family, undoubtedly the most powerful to whom the castle belonged: The Ventadour, Dukes and Peers of France, probably the last owners of the castle to have resided there.. Guided tours in July-August-September and October every day from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. except Saturday morning and Sunday morning.

The association "In search of discovery" invites you to discover the characterful village of Meyras. A local animator "Dédé l'Ardéchois" will guide you on the course of the "frescoes" and will open the drawers of his story cabinet for you. It will take you on an extraordinary stroll through the most authentic quarters of the medieval village. From the Saint Etienne church to the washhouse, another way to immerse yourself in the soft, mysterious atmosphere of Meyras, at sunset... Every Monday in July and August, meet at 8:30 p.m. in front of the church door. Price 5€.

Do not miss to visit the "Small museum in Dédé" which relates the history of the railway in southern Ardèche. Free entrance.
