The gateway to the Millevaches Regional Nature Park in Limousing, Meymac and its old town with ancient houses are located in Haute-Corrèze, 16 km to the west of Ussel. With many rivers and hiking paths winding their way through it, this charming country holiday resort has many attractions. Within the territory of the municipality stands Mount Bessou, which culminates at 976 metres in altitude. The highest point of the Millevaches plateau, this unspoilt, green site will offer you a superb view over the Auvergne mountains from the top of its panoramic tower!

Also listed among the Most Beautiful Detours of France, the small town of Meymac invites you to discover its monuments steeped in history, like the old Benedictine Abbey of St. Andrew and St. Leger, founded at the end of the 11th century, of which a very beautiful Romanesque church still remains today. Flanked by a remarkable polylobed portal, it contains a magnificent black Virgin from the 12th century, a reliquary bust of St. Leger, and listed furniture.

The south wing of the abbey nowadays houses a contemporary art centre which puts on three exhibitions a year: in spring, summer and autumn-winter. The north wing houses the Marius Vazailles museum devoted to the history of the Millevaches plateau, from Prehistory to the present day. A former General Warden of Water and Forests, Marius Vazeilles has brought together an impressive collection of objects and tools from this area.

After visiting these cultural sites, treat yourself to a walk in the picturesque streets of the historic town centre. The old 16th-century market hall, the old hospital (Hôtel-Dieu), the Moines Larose castle adorned with turrets, the mansion of the Dukes of Ventadour, the clocktower and the monumental fountain made of Volvic stones are among the reminders of the past that you can admire along the way.

Old, the city of Meymac proposal offers a wide historical monuments and buildings of exceptional architecture.

Classified as an historic monument, the abbey Saint-André-Saint-Léger Meymac was created in the early eleventh century by Viscount Comborn Archambaud III. It is possible to admire a Romanesque-Limousin-style bell tower and eleven carved capitals. Inside, visitors discover happiness with a black Virgin from the twelfth century, a baroque organ of the seventeenth century, or a beautiful statue of St. Leger.

Marius Vazeilles museum offers collections of tools of the Paleolithic and Neolithic, or the funerary objects from the Gallo-Roman era. The museum also displays objects of rural life in the region.

Dating from the fifteenth century, Meymac hall was rebuilt in 1826 and at that time moved to its current location. With a very beautiful structure, it also presents a slate roof in period.

Located in the premises of the abbey of Meymac, the contemporary art center was established in 1982 and presents temporary exhibitions. In December, he presents a calendar of Advent through the monumental abbey windows.

Walking through the city, it is possible to admire the old houses, as in the Rue Neuve or in the Rue Saint-Pierre. Visitors enjoy the charm of the Hotel-Dieu, the hotel of the dukes of Ventadour, or the belfry, a watch tower of the old fortifications of the fifteenth century. Events and festivities

Meymac no shortage of attractions with its many events organized throughout the year.

Meymac The market is held the second and fourth Friday of the month, from 8 am to 13h. A small market is also held on Sunday morning. A fair is also held on the High Street, the first and third Friday of the month. In summer, the old hall hosts a farmers market and caterers on Wednesday afternoon.

In winter, winter Meymac hosts an impressive concentration on the plateau of Millevaches.

June is the Spring Festival Theatre Haute Corrèze with cultural events initiated on a particular theme. Literature, theater, cinema and contemporary art are planned.

The August third weekend, the city organizes its arts and crafts days with exhibitions of all kinds.
