Also known as the National Estate of Meudon or the Imperial Palace of Meudon, the Château de Meudon in Hauts-de-Seine has had the honor of hosting the greatest names in history over the centuries. Formerly the residence of the Duchess of Étampes, of Louvois or even of Monseigneur, the Grand Dauphin, he saw his Château-Vieux destroyed by fire at the end of the 18th century.
Also affected by a fire in 1871, the Château-Neuf was partly preserved, being transformed into an observatory in the second half of the 19th century, before being attached to the Paris Observatory in 1927 Ideally located between Paris and Versailles, in an abundant hunting reserve, the site of the Château de Meudon has benefited from numerous developments on the part of its successive owners, from the Renaissance to the fall of the Second Empire. It now benefits from a classification as a Historic Monument, just like hangar Y, a building located in the Chalais-Meudon park.
Passing visitors can discover many of the buildings originally constructed here, such as the orangery, the outbuildings and the remains of the Château-Neuf. The avenue of the castle drawn by Louvois, the outbuildings of the Grand Dauphin, the kennel of Louvois are still visible.
