Built between 1841 and 1844 in the town center of Metz, the Ney barracks, also known as the Genie barracks, is now listed as a Historic Monument. A garrison town since the first half of the 19th century, Metz had numerous barracks at that time, including the Ney barracks.
Occupied by German troops during the first Annexation, it was returned to France in 1919 before being occupied again by the German army in 1940. Reinvested by the French army in November 1944, it is today 'today occupied by the establishment of the Defense Infrastructure Service of Metz, the fourth army medical center and the information and recruitment center of the armed forces.
Made up of buildings forming a U 170 m long and 95 m wide, the Ney barracks particularly seduce its visitors with its impressive weapon trophies in high relief on the entrance.
