Tower of Veyrines

Monument in Mérignac

Vestige of an old fortified castle located in the town of Mérignac, in Gironde, the Veyrines tower probably dates from the 13th century. Listed as an historic monument, it served as an entrance passage to the old fortress built with the authorization of Edward I, King of England and Duke of Aquitaine at the time.

Twenty meters high, the Veyrines tower has machicolations. Endowed with the 16th century very beautiful wall paintings of southern, English and Gothic styles, the building preserves today only a few traces.
