Opened in 1976 in a former electrical factory, the Ignon-Fabre Museum in Mende closed in the mid-1990s. The site is expected to reopen in late 2022 as the Gévaudan Museum. Labeled Museum of France, the site originally presented to its visitors different types of objects, including collections from excavations on the Gallo-Roman sites of the department.
The former Ignon-Fabre museum also has very fine collections of geology, paleontology and objects relating to the arts and local history. Rich in more than a hundred species, the ornithological collection donated by the son of Doctor Poussié de Marvejols also deserves special attention.
