Mazeuil which means "home" in Latin, is a village that was built in plain on the banks of the Dive and its tributary La Roche Executioner around the church Saint-Hilaire. During the wars of religion, the king's brother, the future Henri III, spends the night in the village before the battle Coligny Protestant army October 3, 1569, in the plains around Moncontour.
