If we go back in time, before the 10th century, only a proto camp high above the valley of the Season (Uhaitz Handia). The ancients erected a wooden building replaced in the 13th century by the strongest castle of Guyenne "sitting on his moult top rock" which gives it a strategic location on the road to Spain. Auger Mauleon Soule last Viscount, will be forced to deliver the castle to Edward 1st of England. The bastide (uptown) appears in the Middle Ages and became a meeting place, fairs and trade. Today the market is held every Tuesday at the Upper Town.
The building is open to visitors from 1 June until 30 September.
