Marseillan

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Hautes-Pyrénées

Perched on a hill, Marseillan dominates the valley of the Arros. Just 15 kilometers from Tarbes, the pretty village flourishes in the Pyrenean foothills of Bigorre. The landscape is wonderful. Surrounded by majestic mountains, the valley bristling with willows and ash trees is dotted with streams. The fields of cultivation alternate with the meadows. In the background, wooded peaks and slopes compete for the horizon. Marseillan is bounded to the north by the stream of Barrastana, from south to north by the River Arros and to the southwest by the Miqueu. Numerous tributaries pass through it like the brook of the Anénos. Just a stone's throw from the Pyrenees Park, the village enjoys an exceptional environment, ideal for rest and relaxation.

Things to see and do

At Marseillan, we breathe. We catch our breath, away from the hectic life of the city. It is a return to nature, to wonder. The protected area invites you to hike. You will take paths that will take you sometimes through an undergrowth where each grove shelters a remarkable fauna, sometimes uncovered in vast meadows of wild beauty. You will walk along the mountainside, leading you from a unique point of view in ridges opening on splendid panoramas. The numerous rivers are a permanent invitation to fishing. You will not have to wait long for the fish, in abundance in living waters, to bite your hook. It is a real miraculous fishing that awaits you on the banks of the rivers and streams of the corner. Hunting is also part of the country's traditions. You will hear in the misty dawn the shots of the hunters set out to settle in the mountains around long before sunrise. Do not forget to inquire on the spot, as both of its last two activities require a permit, duly issued by the authorities in place.

Events and festivities

During the month of August, it is four days of festivities that take place in Marseillan. This is the festival of the village. Four days of follies where the animations follow each other at a frantic pace, night and day. During the day, traditional keel competitions and songs fill the streets of the village and resonate in the surrounding mountains. The petanque parties unleash the passions. Pull or point, you must choose the right way for the ball to approach closest to the jack. At noon, just before the huge banquet that is held in the open sky, the inhabitants begin the serenade that you will chorus with them. In the evening, the festivities continue until the end of the night with the ball.
