The national domain of Saint-Cloud, also called Saint-Cloud park, is located on the territories of the communes of Saint-Cloud, Marnes-la-Coquette and Sèvres, in the Hauts-de-Seine.
Vast 460 hectares, protected as historical monuments and labeled Remarkable Garden, it includes paths, lawns and wooded areas but also buildings such as the Breteuil pavilion where the "yardstick" is kept.
Belonging to the State, the estate also houses a sports complex called Pré de Saint-Jean, managed by the Hauts-de-Seine department.
The origin of the park dates back to 1577 when Catherine de Médicis acquired the Hôtel d'Aulnay and the small estate that surrounded it (5 hectares). However, it was in the 17th century when "Monsieur", the Duke of Anjou then Duke of Orleans, and above all brother of Louis XIV, embellished there (with the architects Le Pautre and Hardouin-Mansart) the castle and its outbuildings that the park becomes a form of "mini Versailles" in terms of space dedicated to the promenade... It is designed as a vast French garden, and many sculptures are arranged there. The site remains a pleasant holiday residence for the sovereigns from the Restoration.
The castle was destroyed during the war of 1870. All that remains are outbuildings occupied by institutions.
An educational farm (La ferme du Piqueur) is also dedicated to children and schools. For more information, call +33 1 46 02 24 53.
