A very rare example of a Romanesque building preserved in Haute-Saône, the priory of Marast was founded in the first half of the 12th century. Listed as a Historic Monument, it remained active until the middle of the 18th century.
Originally dependent on the abbey of Chaumousey, the priory of Marast later hosted a minor seminary at the beginning of the 19th century, then a school of the Congregation of the Brothers of Mary. Today, the building still strikes with its Cistercian-inspired architecture. Visitors can discover an incredible vault with a framework in the shape of the hull of an overturned ship. Incredibly well restored by the General Council, the site hosts concerts and other cultural events every summer.
