A neo-Gothic building listed as a Historic Monument, the Saint-Georges church of Lyon is located between the Quarantaine district and the Saint-Jean district. It was built on the site of the former commandery of the knights of the order of Saint John of Jerusalem.
Originally built in the 6th century, the Saint-Georges church was heavily damaged by the Saracens in the 18th century before undergoing a first restoration campaign. Transformed many times, it was completely rebuilt in the 19th century.
Disused in the 1970s and 1980s, its parish became diocesan again in 2006.
