The lace was introduced in France at the time of the Renaissance. The famous lace of Luxeuil was mainly due to the enormous spread it known as the Second Empire... The day Napoleon III accompanied his wife "take the waters" at Luxeuil-les-Bains. The small city comtoise offered to the Empress, an umbrella made following his own technique. The success was overwhelming and nobility as bourgeoisie wanted to have different parts of this beautiful lace.
But Luxeuil lace, like many other textile trades, was under threat of disappearing altogether by lack of demand in our current society. To maintain this expertise and back up the laces and original drawings archives, a conservatory dedicated to this purpose is established in 1978 (Association loi 1901). To date the association has a hundred adherent who have at heart to perpetuate this expertise by investing through exhibitions, national and international meetings. In 1994 the conservatory gets the name "lace Luxeuil" and a certificate of authenticity is officially assigned.
