Lourmarin village is located between two valleys: the Durance valley and the Calavon valley, near Apt. The village is located at the entrance of a passage dug by the river Aiguebrun in the limestone mountains of Luberon.

Fame Lourmarin is partly due to its gastronomy, Reine Sammut, woman leader since 1975, is decorated with a Michelin star. Lourmarin is also famous for two great writers of the twentieth century who lived Lourmarin and are buried there. This is of course Albert Camus (La Peste, the Stranger) and Henri Bosco (The Child and the River, Donkey Brief). Both writers have chosen Lourmarin for several reasons, including the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in this place that enjoys unspoilt nature.
