Longwy is a town in Meurthe-et-Moselle. Considered one of the most important towns in the department, it is located near the borders of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It would take its name from the latin Vicus Longus, which means lying village.
Old steel basin of great importance and former Roman camp and castle, Longwy is now best known for being one of the fortified towns of Vauban. This old district, located on the heights of the city, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is the main tourist site Longwy.
The historic buildings and sights abound in Longwy and lovers of old stones and history find their happiness in the middle of streets and churches of all styles. Local crafts, based mainly on pottery and enamel, is also one of the main attractions Longwy, with collections from all eras.

Longwy fortifications, built by Vauban, were classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. Built between 1679 and 1690, they are located on the heights of the new town and still have buildings in excellent condition. One can admire a well notably the seventeenth century once located on the Place d'Armes, the door of France and halfpipe, St. Dagobert church or a military bakery. Guided tours are proposed to discover an underground or a generally closed to the public tinderbox.
Longwy castles full of all kinds and all styles. One can discover a particular castle of the eleventh century, the castle of Pulventeux, Castle Monplaisir, part of the park has welcomed asylum Margaine, Castle Senelle the Saintignon castle which now houses the police station, Thomas or the castle, a neo-Renaissance building transformed into a private college and high school.
Longwy also has a very important religious heritage of great interest. The Church of the Holy Trinity, built in the mid-nineteenth century, replaced the old chapel, and the church Saint-Dagobert was restored in the 1920s, before being classified as an historic monument. Nearby, San Giulio church has a beautiful Romanesque Revival style built in the early twentieth century. Convents are also present in the town such as the Sisters of the Congregation or the Carmelite convent.
Several museums are in the town as the municipal museum located in the former military bakery that has beautiful collections of enamels and faience Longwy, or the private museum of the Faience St. John the Eagle. The latter hosts ceramics of the seventeenth century to the twenty-first, and a cutlery collection. Longwy steel also has an interesting museum, arts, history and traditions, in an old farmhouse.

Longwy knows how every year its heritage and traditions in value with all events as interesting as each other.
Longwy has two weekly markets on Thursday and Saturday morning. In the spring, the city also hosts his famous Easter fair, the largest fairground gathering in the region that spreads over two weeks.
Around February-March, Longwy offers since 2008 a Venetian carnival and wine. On two days, he moved particularly in fortifications of Vauban, and has a beautiful fireworks.
Every year in July, the festival Longwy Night takes place for a week. Every night a different part of the city, concerts are organized.
