Very old city, one finds traces of Lombez from the Roman period. Around the year 600 arrives from St Jacques de Compostela, Majan, a bishop of Antioch, who moved to Lombez to Christianize the region. Legend has it that the terrace dragon terrorized the region, throwing his episcopal ring in its mouth. A miraculous fountain whose water healed the blind and people with blindness arises in place of the dragon struck.
At the end of the eighth century the Duke of Aquitaine surrender the place to the Abbey of St. Thibéry in Herault. The Benedictines built an abbey and monastery. They are supported in the twelfth century by the Augustinians of Toulouse. In the fourteenth century Lombez is elevated to rural diocese by Pope sitting in Avignon after the schism that gripped Christendom. The abbey church will undergo the transformations to be elevated to a cathedral.
The city will shine the Middle Ages to the Revolution and 32 bishops will succeed and participate in the development of the region. The second bishop, Jacques Colona, from a famous Italian family and the son of Gaucerande Isle Jourdain is a friend of the poet and humanist Petrarch; it will spend the summer 1330 Lombez and explain the merits in its "letters to posterity."
Lombez was a city of "dresses" (Cistercian women become primary school Petrarch School, Capuchin Monastery became police after the French Revolution, now housing and crèche).
After the French Revolution, Lombez is named Sub-Prefecture and will have his court, became town hall.
In 30 years, a new city was founded on the place called "The Ramondère" where there are new subdivisions, a senior residence secure. A "Dutch" town was founded in 1996 with 180 houses of which is available for rental.
The city center is now eligible for renewal decided by the municipality whose early efforts were launched: new premises for the tourist office become Tourist Office in 2013, opposite the cathedral boarding school dormitory Fenelon converted into new housing by an individual, behind the hall.
Early 2014 we can count more than 2 000 inhabitants with input from newcomers.
