Lesneven is a city of Finistère in Brittany, 25 km northeast of Brest. Its territory of 10 square kilometers is located in the heart of the plateau and the historical and cultural area of Pays de Léon, near the coast of the Channel.
If there remains some agricultural land to the north, the municipality is now mostly occupied by the urban locality network, which is extended to the west by that of Folgoët.
Carrefour and commercial road now unavoidable northern Finistère, Lesneven formed before the year one thousand, around a motte would have occupied the Even count, winner of the Normans according to legend, and after the foundation of a parish dedicated to Our Lady and a priory (XII).
Leon Counts make the city their capital and erect there a now defunct castle. Lesneven then houses two monasteries during the old regime (the Ursulines the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and that of Recollects in the seventeenth). Lesneven is so prosperous, many mansions built before the Revolution testify.
With now more than 7,500 people, faithful to its commercial and artisanal vocation, proud of a preserved heritage, the town remains a must-Léon, near the resort of Brignogan-Plage. Cultural vitality and its range of sporting activities is also revealing of the highest order!
