The commune of Salelles is located in Ardèche, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, 30 km south-west of Aubenas.

The territory of the locality, with an area of 5.6 km² announces the foothills of the Cévennes, ranging from 152 to 543 m above sea level, enclosed in a loop of the course of Chassezac, which forms its "southern" limit.

Les Salelles are made up of several villages and hamlets on the hillsides overlooking the river. The municipality therefore has the singularity of not having a center.

Now populated by around 360 inhabitants, Les Salelles have always had an agricultural vocation. A time specializing in the culture of the silkworm, the locality now highlights its built heritage and its natural environment: "green" tourism (hiking, swimming) has therefore legitimately developed there.

A stopover or even a very pleasant vacation spot, close to other tourist sites of interest (the Cévennes, Les Vans, Vallon-Pont-d'Arc and the Chauvet cave, etc.).

Things to see and do

The jewel of the town in terms of heritage is its Saint-Sauveur church, protected as historical monuments since 1907: it dates from the 15th century and it is one of the rare Gothic-style churches in the region, built on a promontory dominating the Chassezac.

We will then have pleasure in discovering the sometimes old dwellings built in sandstone and covered with Roman tiles, the alleys being marked out with picturesque elements (stairs, vaulted passages).

Then make way for the many "nature" leisure activities available in the town.

First of all, note the walking path dedicated to families, accessible to young children, strollers and people in wheelchairs, recently built near the town hall. It allows you to walk through a pine forest before accessing a real "balcony" offering a panoramic view of the locality and the south of the territory. A picnic area completes this arrangement.

For hiking enthusiasts, many circuits of varying length and difficulty have been traced in the locality and neighboring towns, taking hilly paths, crossing areas of orchards, passing over nicely crafted bridges... Maps and information on +33 4 75 37 24 48.

Some of the circuits are accessible to mountain bikers. But it is also possible to discover this environment and these mid-mountain landscapes during a horseback ride! Contact the Foussac equestrian farm on +33 4 75 94 91 77.

Finally, the Chassezac river, if it is capricious in winter, swollen by the heavy rains of the Cevennes episodes, is the rest of the year a magnificent exercise ground for fishermen. Find out about the sites and regulations on +33 4 75 36 63 15 or +33 6 83 31 09 44.

In summer, when the climate is almost Mediterranean, the river is suitable for swimming. For example, choose the Nassier site to cool off in complete safety.
