Lac des Rousses is located in the town of the same name, in the Jura, 35 km northeast of Saint-Claude, near Switzerland.
The lake was formed in the Val de l'Orbe, at an altitude of 1059 m, which makes it one of the highest bodies of water in the massif.
In the immediate vicinity of the Les Rousses ski area (which includes part of the territory of neighboring localities such as Lamoura, Bois d'Amont and Prémanon), its surface area is nearly 100 hectares.
Rich in trout, pike and perch, in particular, it includes a bog area with a unique and protected ecosystem.
The lake has leisure facilities (picnic area, pétanque court, lawn terraces). A footpath is accessible to hikers.
The lake also has a beach, where swimming is supervised in summer, and a nautical base (nautical equipment rental). Other developments made up of wooden decking allow you to approach or even cross the peat bog.
Interpretation panels have been installed, which help to understand the specific environment of the lake and its surroundings.
Our animal friends, even on a leash, as well as bicycles, are not allowed on the beaches, lawns and on the pedestrian path along the shores of the lake, from May 15 to September 15.
Fishing is authorized provided that the regulations are respected.
