Formed of Ricey-Bas, Ricey-Haute-Rive and Ricey-Haut, Les Riceys is today the municipality which has the most important wine-growing area of all the Champagne. It is located in the valley of Laigne, in the department of Aube. About fifty kilometers from Troyes, the city makes the beautiful days of the region Grand East.

The commune of Riceys was born in the Gallo-Roman era and, therefore, never ceases to develop. It is quickly known for its high quality wine production, which is now worth three AOCs for champagne, the Champagne hillsides, as well as for rosé Riceys, wine very appreciated under Louis XIV.

A stay at the Riceys is an opportunity to admire an important architectural heritage, as well as vineyards as far as the eye can see, while immersing themselves in the local culture.

Things to see and do

Of the three boroughs that form Les Riceys, it is possible to visit several churches with typical architecture of the region. The church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens, in particular, is classified to the Historic Monuments, as is the church Saint-Jean-Baptiste, and that of Saint-Vincent.

Built in the 15th century on the remains of an old 11th century stronghold, the castle of Ricey-Bas is listed in Historic Monuments. Private, it is surrounded by a large park and the Laigne. One can also admire the castle Saint-Louis, located on the island of the same name, in Ricey-Haute-Rive.

Different chapels take place at the Riceys, like those of Saint-Antoine, Saint-Claude, Saint-Clair, Saint-Jacques or Sainte-Sabine. The San Sebastian chapel in Ricey-Haut was built in the 16th century and is now listed as a Historic Monument.

The Clos Saint-Roch castle, private, is listed in the Historic Monuments. Built in the second half of the 18th century, it has a beautiful period décor and a vaulted cellar under the terrace.

While strolling through Ricey-Haut, do not miss the market hall and the Laigne bridge, both of which are registered in the Historic Monuments.

The circuit of the Cadoles, marked out, makes it possible to discover all the small constructions of vine-growers in dry stone which still occupy the territory of the municipality. The walk on this trail also offers a very nice view on the surroundings.
