With around 3000 inhabitants, the town of Haute-Savoie is located in the heart of the Arve valley at the foot of Mont Blanc, near the town of Chamonix.
Inhabited since the Gallic time, the site is now a winter sports resort of international fame that made it successful. With over twenty-three downhill runs, it attracts a large number of athletes and other tourists throughout the year.
The small town of Les Houches also boasts a charming historical heritage that makes all the original features and reflects a very ancient history, close to its traditions. It is also known to house a school of theoretical physics welcoming the world's top specialists.
Full of authenticity, the town of Les Houches this still a major tourist attraction with its architectural heritage and its ski resort.
The ski resort of Les Houches and was achieved international fame. It is the main tourist attraction of this small town Savoyard. The area covers more than fifty kilometers from the ski slopes, with forest tracks, perfect for beginners or experts in the freestyle. Two snow parks are also present, as cross-country ski trails. Entertainment abound with snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating, an adventure park and paragliding. A spa with relaxation area is also available with various treatments.
Built in 1766, St. John the Baptist church offers visitors a beautiful Baroque façade and an onion dome. The latter dates from the mid-nineteenth century. Nearby, a large statue of Christ the King welcomes visitors since 1934.
The town of Les Houches is crossed by a portion of the route of the famous Mont Blanc tramway. This line of rack railway connects the station of Saint-Gervais in Bionnassay glacier.
The Merlet Animal Park, located more than 1,500 meters, occupies an area of twenty hectares to present, free, chamois, sheep, deer, llamas or marmots. It offers amazing views of Mont Blanc and the Chamonix valley.
Housed in an eighteenth century house, the mountain town museum offers collections of heritage and traditional housing in the region.
Houches market is held every Monday morning.
Reggae festival in Les Houches takes place in February with several concerts.
In August, the town offers a feast of mountain guides with animations and other festivities.
