30 km north-east of Nancy and only a few kilometers from Château-Salins, the modest village of Lemoncourt, in Moselle, has a real jewel with its parish church dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Then dependent on the abbeys of Saint-Arnoul and Saint-Vincent, Metz, it was built at the end of the twelfth century, enlarged in the thirteenth, remodeled in the thirteenth and finally restored in the nineteenth. The church, very well preserved, is listed as a Historic Monument since 1881.
Its specificity is to present a Romanesque style as attested by its bell tower but also Gothic aspects, as the portal of the facade whose tympanum evokes the coronation of the Virgin by Christ. The quality of the ornaments and sculptures inside the building is remarkable: one can see angels at the level of the columns-statues of the nave, and capitals depicting the faces of men and women (saints or saints).) or foliage (palms, interlacing). As for the keystones of the nave, they are carved here again very carefully, forming a gallery of characters and a bestiary.
