Le Reposoir

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Haute-Savoie

Small community nestled at the foot of the Col de la Colombiere, Le Reposoir is a family friendly ski resort. Perched between 980 meters and 1600 meters above sea level, the town offers an ideal ski area for beginners. The exceptional natural environment makes it possible to practice all nature sports in summer and winter.

It was about the year 1151 that the Carthusians settled in this place and named it Le Reposoir. Formerly a hunting place where the game proliferates, the village's implementation fails the first time, but succeeds in the second attempt. History is not very prolix over the years that followed, but time has preserved some vestiges still visible today. Authenticity and character are therefore at the rendezvous of this mountain village.

Gastronomy is not to be outdone and you can enjoy the famous Savoyard fondue and other raclette.

Things to see and do

And it is by a walk in the past that begins the visit of this charming village high perch. In the alleyways you can admire the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church built in 1850. The chapel of the Blessed John of Spain is located at the confluence of the two Forons. History says that this building was part of the first construction campaign of the Chartreuse. But the project was abandoned for the first time and the chapel remained as it was. The Chartreuse du Reposoir rises at the foot of Pointe Percée in a natural setting of rare beauty. The Carmel, built in 1151, is classified as a Historic Monument. Finally, in the middle of nature, the Gate of Age stands, the last vestige of an old farm, tolling place due to the monks.

The winter, Le Reposoir invites you to all sports related to snow. You can practice alpine skiing on 6 km of slopes. These are very suitable for beginners who will discover the joys of gliding in a magnificent setting. A toboggan run is also at your disposal. You can go hiking in snowshoes in the surrounding nature.

In the summer, it is the hikes that are in the honor. The marked trails lead you through the woods where typically mountain flora and fauna await you. Do not forget your cameras!

From June 1st to September 15th, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you can enjoy a guided tour of the Sommier d'Aval alpine pastures. It's a herd of a hundred goats waiting for you up there. You will be able to see how one leads a herd and the making of the cheese proposed for sale.
