Charming small town in the Ardèche department, Le Pouzin is located on the banks of the Rhone in the Ouvèze valley. The village is also wedged between the limestone plateaus of the Grads and the riverfront. Le Pouzin is in a region called the Middle Vivarais. The town has a rich industrial history with an important agriculture thanks to the fertile soil on which the city is built. Inhabited since prehistoric times, the village was located at a strategic axis. A cave, the cave of Payre, has also been inhabited by Neanderthals. It is still its strategic location which makes it an important town in Roman times and the Middle Ages and even in the early twentieth century.

Things to see and do

The village Pouzin, landlocked in the heart of the Ouvèze valley in the Middle Vivarais enjoys an exceptional natural environment. You can walk on the many hiking trails that crisscross the surrounding countryside, accessible to hikers as well as amateur hikers. Hunters will find in many of the region Pouzin game reserves which, during the season, will enable them to satisfy their leisure in a protected environment.

The village Pouzin, with its rich history, preserved in its territory several interesting buildings. Some are even classified historic monument. This is particularly true of the Roman bridge over the Ouveze. History tells us that it was built in the second century and correspond to the passage of the route of Antonin to go up to the neck of the Escrinet.

The second building historical monument of the town consists of the ruins of the Abbey of Rompon, which is also called convent goats. Situated on a limestone plateau, this abbey was built around 928. Originally a priory, it would be one of the oldest priories Cluny. It will have up to 12 monks and a prior. It will be left to the sixteenth century because of religious wars.

On the territory of the municipality of Pouzin, it is also free to discover the bridge over the Rhone. A book of more than 2 tons and almost 300 meters long.

The town of Pouzin makes available to its citizens a hall. It regularly hosts exhibitions and events that animate the life of the village.

Unmissable village, the Pouzin weekly market is held every Wednesday morning. Vincent Auriol in the square you will find many regional producers, as we said, the Pouzin region, very fertile, full of small family farms that produce fruits, vegetables, local milk and cheese. One can also find street vendors offering clothing and textiles.

Each spring, the municipal team also organizes a large garage sales. Open to all, this is the opportunity to empty or splurge on a unique item!
