Le Petit-Quevilly

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Seine-Maritime

Common of Normandy, Le Petit-Quevilly is located in the department of Seine-Maritime, on the banks of a meander of the Seine. Limitrophe of Rouen, it is also close to Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray or Grand-Quevilly, whose football team has distinguished itself at the best level.

The town was born in the twelfth century of its split with Le Grand-Quevilly. It is illustrated mainly in the nineteenth century with an industrial past of great interest. Le Petit-Quevilly is notably known for its spinning which then had an important reputation in the rest of the country. Following the exceptional economic crisis of 1929, the town forgets little by little this industry, becoming a residential city.

Enjoying an interesting architectural heritage and benefiting from a geographical location ideal to discover the charms of Normandy, Le Petit-Quevilly attracts every year many visitors.

Things to see and do

Classified as Historic Monuments, the chapel of Saint-Julien des Chartreux was built according to the will of Henry II Plantagenêt then Duke of Normandy. It is the only vestige of the royal house of the park of Rouvray, revealing beautiful zenithal frescoes on the vault of the apse representing among others the Annunciation, the Visitation and the Nativity.

Do not miss the Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue church of the XIXth century listed in the Historic Monuments, or the old La Foudre cotton mill. Built in the middle of the 19th century, the latter has been listed as a Historic Monument and now serves as a business incubator.

It is still possible to discover in the cloister garden, the remains of the Chartreuse Saint-Julien. The facades and roofs of the south pavilion or the ensemble of archaeological remains have been inscribed in the Historic Monuments.

Enjoying a pleasant natural setting, Le Petit-Quevilly has several green areas like the Parc des Chartreux, the Marcel-Paul square or the cloister garden.
