Bourgvallées

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Manche

New commune of La Manche, in the Normandy region, Bourgvallées takes place about ten kilometers from Saint-Lô. It was born in January 2016 from the merger of the municipalities of Gourfaleur, La Mancellière-sur-Vire, Saint-Romphaire and Saint-Samson-de-Bonfossé. In January 2019, it widened with the arrival of Soulles and Le Mesnil-Herman.

For a long time agricultural, the territory of Bourgvallées has gradually developed, offering over the centuries more intense economic activity. Very old, it still presents today a rich architectural and historical heritage to visitors, as well as a preserved and authentic nature typically Norman through in particular the famous bocage.

Its proximity to Saint-Lô or to some of the most beautiful tourist sites in the department makes it an ideal vacation spot.

Built in the twelfth century and rebuilt in the nineteenth century, the Church of Our Lady of Gourfaleur has a beautiful western portal Caen stone with archivolt arched. It reveals an incredible paneled frame of the late fifteenth century in the nave and choir windows devoted to the archangels as St. Raphael and St. Michael. As you walk along there, you can also enjoy the Béron the castle of the seventeenth century, the manor of the Court of the sixteenth, the manor of Saint-Lubin, or browse the hiking trails on the Vire valley.

Soulles is appreciated for its Saint Martin Church of the seventeenth century with its statue of the fifteenth century listed building and its farmhouses of the Court of Soulles fifteenth and its castle of the nineteenth century neo-Louis XIII style.

Partly affected by bombing in 1944, the Saint-Pierre church in Le Mesnil-Herman does not lack interest. Built in the fifteenth century, it reveals a beautiful statue of St. Louis de Montfort who passed through here in the early eighteenth century. The nave preserved medieval elements, while the altar, the tent and the altar form a set of the art of Reformation.
