Ville de Saint-Yrieix Saint-Yrieix owes its name to Aredius, founder of the city. Cultivated priest with a Gallo-Roman estate, his fame very quickly make him a saint. To 564 Aredius established here a monastery and thus was born the city that bears his name, became Yrieix oral deformation. The current city gathered around a core of old buildings which is dominated by the medieval college. This historic area is experiencing a major redevelopment, profoundly changing the city, restoring its authenticity.
