La Vicomté-sur-Rance is located in the heart of a tourist region through which winds the Rance.

Privileged by its location on the border of the maritime Rance and river Rance La Vicomté boasts a natural heritage which will not escape the casual visitor. Built on top of a deep narrow valley, it offers one of the best views in the region: one that everyone can admire the heights of Mont Joly, at a place called Foumoy.

In contrast, the highest point of the town, on the edge of St. Helen, the ancestors have left some traces of which the most visible element is a covered walkway, the "Bois du Rocher". Long before that already, to Palaeolithic times, this region was the scene of intense activity: there was a stone processing plant. Some are exposed to the mayor and the mill Prat.

If the highlight of a visit to the village is at the Prat mill site, the fact remains that its discovery provides plenty of diversity. Until the mid-twentieth century, the gathering place of choice was the laundry. Some of them still exist and their location was not chosen by chance: they were usually built close to the fountains.

Each village had its own fountain. There are fifteen in the territory of La Vicomte. If they are now frequently isolated in private properties, some bordering regularly maintained trails to enable the discovery of the country.

If the crosses are rare, they are nevertheless a reflection of a much longer history: some were carved in the sixteenth century. Modern times have forgotten a few, have moved other: the ways of communication built from the nineteenth century have changed the old ways appearance at the crossroads where they were planted.

The old houses are also an open book (almost...) tells the story of the inhabitants of the municipality. The long houses, so numerous in the valley of the Rance consisted of houses built in joint gradually with the development of a family. They were so often the cause of the hamlets in the region.

If a number of these houses was built in the nineteenth century, some housed the ancestors there much longer!

Reading lintels feature that offers a human approach in its history and allows visitors insightful to discover the most original aspects. Sometimes simply dated or highlighted by a relief in the manner of some religious buildings, they are at other times an accurate indication of the origins of the house they adorn the entrance.

The oldest of them are characterized by an architecture concerned with the protection of its people, not letting the daylight only very sparingly.

In reality, doors and windows were small and the houses blotissaient against each other to better protect their inhabitants from the harsh climate.

While most of the livelihood of old came from the culture and breeding of livestock often reduced to a trickle, the embellished many of their wealth provided the proximity of the sea: fish. That is why the banks of the estuary were dotted with shacks squares. Some have disappeared, others have been maintained and bordering the Rance Lyvet until the pit of Morgrève. The Vicomte is the only village where you can find... but for how long...?

The many trails and paths that run through the town you will enjoy one of the treasures she tries tirelessly to preserve: its authenticity.
