Municipality located in the northern department of Gard, in the foothills of Mont-Lozère, in the Valley Oguègne.
Commune founded in 1870 on grounds of Le Chambon-doors. The main industry was mining. The town has added up to about 4 000 inhabitants. There was a college, seven kindergartens and primary schools, a police station (closed in 1967). A mine closure in the late fifties, the village collapsed. After the closure of the gendarmerie in 1967, came the closure of the college in 1969 and then gradually closing the primary grades. Today, only a single class. The town now has about 340 inhabitants, but the village youth tend to move back, the town of Ales is located 25 km.
