The first royal residence in the Loire Valley, the castle of Plessis-lès-Tours is today located in the territory of La Riche, in Indre-et-Loire. Built during the 15th century by Louis XI who made it his favorite residence, it subsequently hosted many kings of France.
Subsequently abandoned and almost entirely destroyed during the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century, the Château de Plessis-lès-Tours still unveils a building entirely restored in the 20th century and which corresponds to the southern part of the first dwelling royal. It still stands proudly all in bricks and stones, serving as a venue for a local theater company.
