Dolmen of Mâcot-la-Plagne

Monument in La Plagne Tarentaise

The dolmen of Mâcot-la-Plagne, in Savoie, is located in the new commune of La Plagne Tarentaise, formed in 2016 after the merger of the localities of Bellentre, Côte d'Aime, Mâcot-la-Plagne and Valezan.

Dating from the Neolithic period (around - 4000 BC), located precisely on the locality of Nantfrozin, this testimony to the ancient occupation of the Lower Tarentaise valley is now surrounded by woods.

Like the other dolmens and menhirs, it is a set of megaliths forming a "table", and whose vocation was most often funerary.

In this same town, stones with cupules (ovoid-shaped holes having been dug in the rock) for cultic vocation have been unearthed, proving again that the region was inhabited before the installation of the Allobroges who occupied the Northern Alps from 500 BC.

The Mâcot-la-Plagne dolmen was classified as a Historic Monument in 1911. Although located on private property, it can possibly be observed during a hike (be careful, however, the relief is difficult)…
