Notre-Dame de Vauvert church is located in the commune of La Palud-sur-Verdon, in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, 10 km north of Saint-André les Alpes.
The oldest parts of the building (the bell tower) date from the 11th and 12th centuries, but for the most part it was rebuilt during the 19th century.
Like that of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, the bell tower is a beautiful testimony of primitive Romanesque art, built in cubic form, in a small device, with Lombard bands supported by pilasters. In the 19th century, it was equipped with a campanile. Note that its roof has been recently restored.
Another old element, the sacristy, which was in fact fitted out in a former seigneurial chapel (the coats of arms of the former lords are visible at the keystone).
The rest of the church, which was in danger of ruin at that time, was rebuilt between 1867 and 1870 in a massive-looking neo-Romanesque style. This element of heritage protected as historical monuments because of its bell tower can mark a discovery of this village located in the heart of the Verdon gorges.
